Why I Bleed REMAX: Growing Up in the Red Brick Building on 31st Street

When people ask why I’m so passionate about real estate, the answer is honestly pretty simple:

I was raised in it.

Long before I became a licensed REALTOR in Temple, before I ever showed a house, negotiated a contract, or filmed a real estate video, I was the kid hanging out inside the red brick REMAX Temple-Belton Properties office on the corner of 31st Street and Canyon Creek. That office has felt like home to me for much longer than my real estate career officially began. Back then, my grandparents — Sue and Terry Lockett (also known in our family as Nanny and Peepaw) — owned the property management company and helped grow the local REMAX franchise here in Central Texas after purchasing it around 2006. Summers were often spent tagging along to appointments, sitting in the office, and soaking in conversations about homes, clients, relationships, and business.

Even on sick days, there was a good chance I’d end up curled up somewhere inside the office. And honestly? I loved it. About 10 years ago, I officially started working at REMAX Temple-Belton Properties doing marketing for the office while also helping with bookkeeping for the property management company. Ironically, I had taken Accounting 101 in college and absolutely hated it… but minor bookkeeping I could survive. Barely. 😂

What really interested me was marketing. This was around the same time social media was starting to become a legitimate business tool, and I became fascinated with how platforms like Facebook could help REALTORS connect with people differently than traditional advertising ever could. At the time, convincing agents to embrace social media marketing felt a little like swimming upstream. Then came video marketing… and let’s just say I really felt like I was pulling teeth trying to get office participation sometimes. Eventually, whether someone encouraged me to do it or I simply decided “forget it, I’ll do it myself,” I got in front of the camera.

I started creating videos, helped launch the office YouTube presence, and slowly began realizing something important: I didn’t just love marketing real estate. I loved real estate itself. That realization eventually led me to become a licensed REALTOR in Texas — a decision that completely changed my life. Getting started was hard. Really hard. But I would never go back. Now, after 2.5 years as the office marketing coordinator and more than 7 years as a full-time REALTOR serving Temple, Belton, Salado, and the surrounding Central Texas area, I’m incredibly thankful for both the marketing knowledge and real-world experience I bring to my clients. Because today’s real estate market requires more than putting a sign in the yard.

It requires strategy.
It requires storytelling.
It requires relationships.
And it requires trust.

One of my favorite things about REMAX Temple-Belton Properties is the people. Some of the REALTORS in our office have known me since I was a little kid. My uncle, Chris Lockett, is now the broker/owner of the office. My grandmother, Sue Lockett, still actively sells real estate today. For me, this business has never just been about transactions.

It’s about legacy.
It’s about family.
It’s about integrity.
It’s about community.

So yes… I bleed REMAX. Because in many ways, I was born into it.
